1. Beat the Heat

Stay cool, Durbanville.

We hope you enjoyed the Tuesday rain while it lasted, because we are heading into a scorcher. With temperatures predicted to hit the mid-to-high 30s this weekend, the plan is simple: find shade, stay hydrated, and move slowly.

2. Premier Spotlight: De Grendel Wine Estate

A Safari Breeze in the Shadows of Table Mountain 🦌

If the heat has you looking for an escape, the De Grendel Farm Tour offers a unique way to see the valley without the heavy hiking. Hop into their open-air tour vehicle for a 60-minute guided experience through the farm's history and wildlife.

  • The Wildlife: Keep an eye out for Springbuck, Eland, Red Hartebeests and Bontebok.

  • The Tour: A 60-minute journey where your guide shares stories about the Graaff family and farm history.

  • Pricing: Tours for two are R620, or you can opt for the full experience with a farm picnic for R1,250.

  • The Hub Verdict: This is a world-class way to see the "wild side" of Durbanville. Important: The flyer recommends bringing a sun hat to handle that valley sun!

  • How to Book: Contact Douglas directly at 083 326 9990 or email [email protected].

P.S. We know, we know— De Grendel is technically "Plattekloof," but as a member of the Durbanville Wine Valley, they’re family. Plus, with those views, we aren't letting anyone else claim them! 🍷

3. Weekend Wanderlust: 2 Ways to Beat the Heat

Early starts and cool treats.

  • The Early Bird Treat: Beat the temperature spike by heading to Chocolat Bistro as they open. 46 Oxford Street, Durbanville. They have a brilliant in-house deli called Petit Chocolat with fresh bakes, and their shaded courtyard is the perfect spot to enjoy a coffee while it's still cool today.
(Note: Updated Jan 9th. Our original recommendation for Oxford Street Bakery has been updated to Chocolat Bistro as the former has recently closed.)

  • The Market: The Durbanville Morning Market at All Saints Church (08:30 – 12:30) is best enjoyed early. It’s a great spot to grab some fresh, cold preserves or handmade crafts before the midday heat hits.

4. Community Note: The Road to 1,000 🚀

We are officially 850 neighbours strong! Even in this heat, our community is growing by 50+ people a day. We are on track to hit the 1,000-resident milestone by next week.

If you’ve enjoyed these weekly guides, please forward this email to one neighbour while you’re sheltering from the sun today. Let’s hit the big 1k together!
