🎸 1. The Boxing Day "Jol" at Hillcrest
If you’re looking to shake off the Christmas food coma with some live music, Hillcrest Estate is the place to be today. They are hosting their annual Boxing Day Blowout featuring two of SA's most legendary rock acts: The Black Cat Bones and Akkedis. It’s a classic Durbanville outdoor experience—bring the family, find a spot on the lawn, and enjoy some pure live magic from 17:00 to 20:00.
Cost: R200 per person (Tickets via Quicket). Kids under 12 are FREE!
Summer Stroll
While the malls are packed with holiday shoppers, the quietest spot in Durbanville today is the Majik Forest. Bordering Jip de Jager drive, this forest and dam area is our best-kept secret for a shaded summer walk. The lower dam area is currently lush and green—perfect for a low-cost family picnic or a 30-minute escape from the holiday madness.
Top Tip: Park at the bottom entrance (near the Doordrift bridge) for the easiest access to the shaded forest paths.
🍝 3. Summer Sip & Eat: Lupa Osteria’s Terrace
If you’ve had enough "traditional" Christmas food, head to Lupa Osteria in the Village Square. Their 2025 summer menu features a "Basil & Bacon Gnocchi" that is a local favorite. Pair it with a chilled glass of Durbanville Hills Merlot—it’s surprisingly refreshing when served slightly chilled on a hot afternoon.
Note: Booking is highly recommended for today!
🏏 4. Sunday Action: Cricket & Sunsets
End the long weekend by soaking up the summer sporting vibe. The Betway SA20 season kicks off today (Friday), and the cricket fever across the northern suburbs is at an all-time high for the weekend ahead. If you’re looking for a more relaxed end to the week, Sunday is the perfect day to head to D'Aria. Their "The Terrace" glasshouse is the most wind-protected spot in the valley—ideal if the south-easter starts blowing this afternoon.
