🥂 1. The Weekend Planner: Festive Edition
The holiday spirit is in full swing across the valley. Here are the top picks for your weekend:
Boney M Live at De Grendel (Sunday, 21 Dec): This is the massive event of the season. Disco legends Boney M (featuring original member Maizie Williams) are performing their 50th Anniversary Tour. It’s a full Christmas picnic party with Table Mountain in the background. Gates open at 12:00.
SUNDAZE at Durbanville Hills (Sunday, 21 Dec): If you prefer a more relaxed vibe, the Sundaze sessions are back. Expect live music from DJ Stefanos, wine slushies, and a casual tapas-style lunch at the Olive Grove Bistro. Entry is free.
The Galileo at Central Park (Friday, 19 Dec): For a classic summer night, the Open Air Cinema is screening Home Alone at Central Park, Century City (just a short hop from D-ville). It’s the ultimate "Dezemba" family movie night.
🛍️ 2. New in Town: Exploring "The View"
Durbanville’s retail landscape changed significantly this year with the opening of the Groot Phesantekraal View centre. If you haven't done your Christmas shopping yet, here is why it's worth the visit:
The Vibe: It’s a 30,000 sq. Meter "community" mall that feels more like a modern farm precinct.
Essential Stops: Beyond the massive new Checkers Hyper and Woolworths Food, check out the W-Edit store (their new boutique format) and the Bossa restaurant for a family lunch.
Something Different: It actually houses an underground shooting range (Dave Sheer Guns), which is a first for a shopping centre in the Northern Suburbs.
🍽️ 3. Local Spotlight: Summer Tasting Rooms
The valley is lush and green. These two spots have updated their summer offerings:
Nitida’s Seasonal Menu: Cassia and Tables at Nitida have both launched their summer menus this month. It’s the perfect time to try their award-winning Sauvignon Blancs on the deck.
D’Aria Wine & Chocolate: They are running a festive chocolate pairing throughout December—ideal for when you have family visiting from out of town and want to show off the local winelands.
🚧 4. Community Corner & Council Updates
Keeping you in the loop with the functional side of Durbanville life:
Cape Winelands Airport: Construction is officially steaming ahead at the old Fisantekraal airfield. This R7 billion project is on track to become a major commercial hub by 2028.
Stadio Campus: The new Stadio Higher Education campus (near Groot Phesantekraal) is nearing completion of Phase 1. It is set to welcome its first 4,000+ students for the 2026 academic year.
City Service Alert: Note that City of Cape Town customer offices and municipal courts will close at 12:30 on Wednesday, 24 December. If you have municipal accounts to settle, try to get them done early next week!
