☕ Good Morning, Durbanville!
Welcome to this week's Durbanville Hub Dispatch. Grab your morning coffee (or oat milk flat white) and dive into the latest news, events and sports around our valley!
🤞🫀 Hoping and praying the Boks can pull it through this week...
1. BOK FEVER HITS THE MOTHER CITY: Springboks vs All Blacks at DHL Stadium!
Green and Gold gear is out in full force across Durbanville today for Bok Friday! This Saturday, 29 August, the Springboks host the All Blacks right here in Cape Town at DHL Stadium for the high-stakes 2nd Test of the Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry Tour (Kick-off at 17:00).
Last Week's Predictions: Safe to say our readers were a bit too optimistic... Not a single person predicted an All Black win in Johannesburg, so nobody got close to the score! The 33–16 result caught us all off guard, leaving the floor wide open for a comeback. 😰 Hoping and praying the Boks can pull it through this week...
What’s Your Call for Cape Town? Let’s try this again! Reply to this email before kick-off with your score prediction for Saturday's Test—we’ll feature the closest guesses and brag about the readers who called it right in next week's issue!
Heading to Green Point?
Transport: Avoid the traffic crawl along the N1/M3 by taking the MyCiTi shuttle services running continuously between the Civic Centre and DHL Stadium for ticket holders.
Fan Park: Gates open early, with stadium fan zones lively well before the 17:00 kick-off. Aim to arrive by 14:30 to beat the security queues and soak up the atmosphere.
Watching Locally in Durbanville: Local spots across the valley are gearing up for big-screen viewings:
Die Boer: Hosting Roan Ash live alongside the rugby screening from 17:30 (R300).
Hennie's Durbanville: Big match broadcast followed by live music from Byron Minnie at 19:00.
Kapstadt Brauhaus: Craft beers, platters, and match-day atmosphere at Heritage Square.
2. Event Highlight: HearUs 25th Anniversary Gala Concert
Mark your calendars for a truly inspiring evening of music and community impact next weekend!
Local NGO HearUs—founded 25 years ago by Daneel and Santie van der Walt alongside legendary cricketer Fanie de Villiers—is celebrating a remarkable quarter-century of helping financially disadvantaged individuals obtain and maintain life-changing cochlear implants.
The milestone double-anniversary also marks 40 years since South Africa’s very first cochlear implant procedure at Tygerberg Hospital back in 1986. Presented in collaboration with the Heydeburg Symphony Orchestra and Dare4Life NGO, this special concert promises an unforgettable night of music for a phenomenal cause.
Special Guest: Miss South Africa 2024, Mia le Roux, who has been a cochlear implant recipient since infancy, will join as an honoured guest.
Featured Performers: Spectacular musical showcases by celebrated soloists, the Stellenbosch Youth Orchestra, and cochlear implant recipient Kate Allwood.
Accessibility Note: A temporary induction loop system will be active in Rows F–Q for guests using hearing aids or cochlear implants
Date & Time: Saturday, 5 September | 19:30
Venue: Endler Hall, Stellenbosch (Dress code: Black Tie)
