Good morning, Durbanville!
This Sunday is the big one. If you’ve been waiting for a sign to finalise your Mother’s Day plans, this is it. The valley is looking spectacular in its autumn gold, but the weather is about to turn, so this is definitely a weekend for indoor "cosy-ing" rather than garden picnics. I wish every mother out there a fantastic day on Sunday.
Thanks for reading!

1. 🗓️ Your Mother's Day Weekend Lineup
Since the weather is turning, these indoor options are your best bet for a great atmosphere.
Reinier van Rooyen Live (Friday, 8 May): Start the weekend at Tipples Durbanville (High Street) at 19:00 tonight. They are debuting the "4 Weeks of Legends" series—perfect for a casual "pre-spoil" with wood-fired pizzas.
The Sauvignon Soirée (Friday, 8 May): Celebrate International Sauvignon Blanc Day at Cassia (Nitida) at 17:00. R260 gets you unlimited tastings of the new cool-climate Sauvignon Blancs, canapés, and live music.
Absolute 80’s Matinee (Sunday, 10 May): For the Mom who loves a power ballad, the Barnyard Tyger Valley has a 14:00 matinee. Tickets are R200.
2. 🍽️ Lunch: The Mother's Day Last-Minute Lifeline
If you haven't booked yet, don't panic—but do pick up the phone right now. For the late planners, these indoor-focused spots are your best bet for finding a warm, last-minute table:
Col’Cacchio (Willowbridge): A brilliant option for families. They have a large indoor area, and the undercover parking at Willowbridge is a lifesaver when the rain starts. It’s consistent, kid-friendly, and perfect for a relaxed Sunday.
Tipples Durbanville (High Street): A solid "plan B" for a relaxed family lunch. They have plenty of indoor seating, great pizzas, and a warm, unpretentious vibe.
Annapurna (Heritage Square): If you want to swap the traditional roast for something with a bit of spice, Annapurna is a masterclass in cosy, indoor dining.
The Hussar Grill Durbanville: A local institution. They have a larger floor plan than many wine farm bistros. If they are full, ask to be put on their cancellation list—spots often open up on the morning of.
If you haven't been to Coffee Cartel yet, you're missing a serious piece of local atmosphere. Nestled in Heritage Square, this rustic spot is the perfect place for a quiet Saturday morning flat white and one of their legendary toasties.
Open Saturday: 08:00 – 14:00 (Closed Sundays).
4. ☔ The Sunday Forecast
Plan for a "Fireplace Sunday." The forecast for Durbanville on Mother’s Day (10 May) is a high of 14°C with a 65% chance of rain and a fresh westerly wind. Ensure your restaurant booking is for an indoor table near a heater!
5. ⚠️ Die Boer: Sold Out Notice
Just a heads-up: all shows at Die Boer from Friday, 8 May through to Sunday, 10 May are officially sold out. This includes the Mother’s Day matinee with Frieda van den Heever.
6. 💬 The Mom-ent (Community Question)
What is the best piece of advice your mother ever gave you?
Whether it was about life, business, or the secret to a perfect Sunday roast, I want to hear it. Hit reply and share it with me—I’ll share the best "Durbanville Mom-isms" in next week's Dispatch.
7. The Durbanville Food Poll
Last week, I shared that Wilde Vy Bistro and Saltwater Grill are my current go-to spots. It turns out many of you agree on the latter, with Saltwater Grill emerging as a firm crowd favourite.
However, we had one reader weigh in with a heavy hitter: "The Eatery at Diemersdal is world class and my favourite in SA." That is high praise for a local gem!
I’m keeping the poll open for one more week to see if anything else can challenge these top three. Where do you go when you want the perfect meal?
Reply to this email and let me know your absolute favourite Durbanville restaurant and why! I’ll share the final "Reader's Choice" leaderboard in next week’s issue.
