Good morning, Durbanville! āļø
Itās a long weekend for some of us todayāWorkersā Day means Friday, 1 May is a public holiday, which makes this one of those rare gift weekends where the whole valley gets to breathe a little. The autumn light over the Tygerberg Hills has been stunning lately, and if youāve driven past any of the wine farms this week, youāll know the vines have turned the most beautiful copper and gold. Itās Durbanville doing what it does best.

1. š§ Water Watch
Our dams are sitting at 47.9% as of 27 April 2026 ā and with the winter rains now on their way, there's cautious optimism that levels will start climbing in the weeks ahead. That said, the City is sounding a clear warning: the main dams are sitting approximately 20% lower than at this time last year, and water restrictions could be introduced later this year if daily consumption doesn't come down. So, while the season is shifting in our favour, now is not the time to ease off ā short showers, full washing machine loads, and fixing that dripping tap you've been ignoring since January all still count.

4. The Durbanville Food Poll
We are truly spoiled for choice in the 7550.
I mentioned last week that Wilde Vy Bistro is my top pick right now, but Saltwater Grill is a very close second. It seems Iām in good company! Our first responder for the poll has officially led the charge, stating that without a doubt, Saltwater Grill is their go-to for seafood and Asian cuisine.
Iām convinced there are more local gems hiding in your contact lists, so Iām keeping the invitation open over the long weekend: Where do you go when you want the perfect meal?
Reply to this email and let me know your absolute favourite Durbanville restaurant and why! Iāll tally the responses and feature the "Reader's Choice" picks in next weekās issue.
šø Through Your Lens
The gallery is a bit lonely this weekāperhaps the rain kept everyoneās cameras tucked away?
I know there are some incredible eyes for detail in the valley. Whether itās the copper vines at Meerendal or a quiet autumn morning in your neighbourhood, Iād love to feature it.
