Good morning, Durbanville!
If you’ve been watching the clouds with anticipation this week, you aren’t alone. After a long, dusty stretch, it looks like we are finally trading the dry heat for some much-needed dampness. The first real "blanket weather" of the season is knocking on the door, and the valley is looking spectacular in its autumn gold.
From a massive "Sold Out" weekend at Die Boer to a "Groovy" heads-up for next week, here is your 7550 briefing for the weekend of 17–19 April 2026.
1. Water Rain Watch: The Weekend Front
After weeks of watching the dams dip (currently sitting at 44.5%), the South African Weather Service is finally giving us something to celebrate. A cold front is expected to move through the Western Cape this weekend, bringing the first significant rainfall of the season.
While it might not "break the drought" in one go, it’s a massive relief for our gardens and the valley's vineyards. If you haven't done it yet, today is the day to clear those gutters of autumn leaves and ensure your drainage is clear before the first drops hit.
2. The 7550 Weekend Guide: Master Schedule
With the rain incoming, the weekend has shifted heavily towards indoor entertainment.
Note: All outdoor Galileo screenings for this weekend (including The Lego Movie and Moulin Rouge) have been officially cancelled due to the weather.

🕺3. Get Groovy: Secret Sunrise Sonstraal Park
Heads up for next weekend (Saturday, 25 April)!
Secret Sunrise is returning to Sonstraal Park (across from the dam) for a guided silent dance and movement session. It’s the perfect way to shake off the autumn blues, and the theme this month is "Outfits with S".
The Challenge: Think Sequins, Sailors, Superheroes or anything slightly outrageous.
The Details: Arrive from 07:00 to get your headsets; the session runs from 07:30 to 08:30.
Tickets: Available on Quicket (from R50 for kids to R150 for adults). Grab yours early, as these sessions often sell out when they hit the valley!
4. The 7550 News Digest
💎 PROPER Hidden Gem: Evert Opstal Restaurant (Evertsdal: Tucked away in a restored 18th-century wine cellar at the historic Evertsdal Opstal (13 Huguenot Avenue), this is the ultimate rainy-day escape. With its thick whitewashed walls, massive fireplace and heritage-inspired menu, it’s a quiet and refined alternative to the busy malls when the weather turns.

📚 The "Great Book Exchange" at Durbanville Library: The library has put out a call for gently used children’s books to replenish their community reading corners. If the rain keeps you indoors this weekend, it’s the perfect time to clear out the shelves and drop a bag off at the reception desk on Monday morning.
🥾 Nature Reserve Curfew: A reminder for the walkers and trail runners—the Durbanville Nature Reserve weekend gates close at 18:00. With the sun setting earlier (approx. 18:15), please ensure you’ve finished your route by then to avoid being locked in!
