Good morning, Durbanville!

We are officially stepping into March this weekend, and the valley is marking the occasion with a rare mix of high-energy rock and high-end wedding bells. Whether you’re heading to the Moedergemeente for a world-class show or hitting the Aurora hills for a road race, here is your guide to the 7550 this weekend.

1. The "Big Stage": Zoid Psalm (Fri & Sat)

This is arguably the most unique show Durbanville has seen this year. Karen Zoid is performing her "Zoid Psalm" at the NG Kerk Durbanville-Moedergemeente.

  • The Vibe: A groundbreaking fusion of a historic church organ and electric rock guitars.

  • The Bonus: Pancakes, boerewors rolls, and wine will be on sale at the church—a proper community night out.

  • Tickets: Friday (19:30) and Saturday (20:00). Check Quicket for any last-minute cancellations.

2. 🧀 Nitida Spotlight: The Big Platter News!

Our friends at Nitida are making a "big noise" this week with a brand-new addition to their cellar experience.

  • The News: You can now enjoy full artisanal platters directly in the Tasting Room!

  • The Experience: No need for a formal restaurant booking—grab a spot in the cool, rustic cellar and pair your Sensory Sauvignon Blanc tasting with a curated selection of local cheeses, cured meats and freshly baked ciabatta.

3. Sunday Traffic Alert: The Dan Luyt 15km

The first of March sees the return of this classic road race.

  • The Route: Starts and ends at Ipic Aurora Shopping Centre (6:00 AM start).

  • The Advice: If you live in Aurora, D’Urbanvale, or Vygeboom, expect runners on the road early Sunday morning.

  • The Reward: If you aren’t running, head to Ipic Aurora around 08:30. The post-race vibe is fantastic. Grab a coffee at Vida e Caffè or while you wait for the prize-giving at 08:45. (A huge thanks to our reader, Vanessa, for correcting our outdated coffee shop list!)

4. Local Pulse: Growth & Entertainment

  • Airport Watch: The Winelands Airport project is facing its final hurdle. Minister Anton Bredell is currently reviewing six appeals from neighbouring landowners. We expect a final verdict by the end of March—if cleared, construction is slated for later this year.

  • Die Boer: If you need a laugh, Mandri Sutherland (Vroudrie) is on stage tonight and Saturday with her show "VROU ENS 1.2". Note: It’s a "strictly for adults" show (No U16s) due to some spicy language!

  • Wedding Fever: The FAB Bridal Expo is taking over D'Aria all weekend (09:00–15:30). It’s perfect for anyone planning a Winelands wedding or matric farewell. Tickets are R120 per person and available via Webtickets or at the door.

5. The Water Watch: The 55.1% Reality

We’ve slipped again. Our combined dam levels are now at 55.1%, and with the summer heat refusing to budge, we need to look at our "hidden" usage.

  • The Reality: The 7550 is a valley of beautiful gardens, but mid-day watering is currently our biggest waste.

  • The Weekend Shift: If you’re using a hose, consider the "Lawn Laundry" hack—wash the cars, the dogs, or even the kids' plastic play equipment on the grass. It’s a simple way to make every litre do double duty without turning the sprinklers on.

  • The Goal: Let’s see if we can collectively shave another 2% off our local usage this week to stay ahead of stricter restrictions.

6. The 7550 "Source of Truth": Our New Local Directory

If you’ve ever tried to find a reliable plumber or a local florist by scrolling through endless Facebook comments, you know the frustration of "recommendation overload."

We’ve built the Durbanville Hub Directory to be the valley’s single source of truth.

  • Find it Fast: We’ve organised the best local businesses into easy-to-navigate categories—from Electricians and Schools to our favourite Wine Farms.

  • Verified Local: We’re moving beyond just a list of names; we are highlighting the businesses that are truly part of the Durbanville fabric.

  • The Goal: To make sure that when you need something done in the 7550, you have a trusted shortlist at your fingertips.
